What is Ubuntu and why Ubuntu is a big deal
The term Ubuntu stands for a traditional African philosophy which means that a person is a person through other persons. In other words, we affirm our humanity when we acknowledge that of others. We at MediaSignage like to think that we are continuing the tradition of the Ubuntu philosophy. By offering a free Digital signage solution we are providing something for the good of others. Ubuntu Linux is a community developed operating system (OS) that is perfect for Digital Signage Players. Ubuntu operating system is a flavor of the Linux distribution and it is completely free software.
So why Ubuntu is a big deal for you and for your business? Well, Ubuntu allows you to save the substantial cost of the operating system. Normally Microsoft Windows license will cost anywhere from $90.00 to $250.00 USD per single license. But with Ubuntu you can save this cost. Ubuntu is also extremely reliable, highly customizable and provides the ideal platform for a Digital Signage or Kiosk Media Player. Ubuntu is pure goodness, it’s just green.
Ubuntu can be loaded with all the application you would possibly need for your Digital Signage or Kiosk media player. These utilities may include remote desktop control, native scripting, multimedia player applications (which you may take advantage of using our external app component) and others.
Full support for external applications
Release 1.8 also includes our new powerful component called External app.
This allows you to execute an external application (exe/binary) inside a screen division. Now you can run a Web Browser, VLC or any other executable as a native part of your Digital Signage or Kiosk. And you can even interact with the screen while the digital signage presentation is running.
Just imagine the possibilities, you can run point of sale software on one screen and run a digital signage presentation on another. Both screens are physically connected to the same POS computer. External application component takes the SignagePlayer functional capabilities into a whole new level. Watch the external application video tutorial
