Digital Signage poll
March 11, 2009MediaSignage.com announcing World’s first Digital Signage Reseller support for EVERYONE with White Label.
March 11, 2009MediaSignage.com announcing: World’s first Digital Signage Reseller support for EVERYONE w/White Label.
The “MediaSignage reseller program for everyone” comes only weeks after the major 1.0 release of Media Signage’s free digital signage release. Levy of MediaSignage said “We are proud to be the first company to offer such a revolutionary approach to digital signage reseller support with white label”.
The MediaSignage white label program allows anyone to open a white label (branding) digital signage account, and to take advantage of the advanced real time monitoring of subscribers through the reseller web application. This reseller approach is coupled by advanced components which a reseller may embed on his/her own web site. The reseller program is also powered by an advanced web calculator which allows each reseller to set its own prices depending on the solution offered.
Levy of MediaSignage promises even more surprises in the months to come, “MediaSignage has taken digital signage to unfamiliar and exciting new territories with our Free Digital Signage solution, Adobe Flex and AIR Powered system, online reseller support and we still have lots of tricks in our hat”.
MediaSignage is scheduled to exit beta release in June of 09. MediaSignage will continue and offer free digital signage for single a AIRPlayer license. Additional licenses will be charged a minimal subscription fee.

Digital Signage Reseller / White Label for everyone…
March 7, 2009As we are planning to release our white label and referral program we posted our reseller / pricing strategy here:
http://mediasignage.com/html/signage_reseller.html
The page includes a detailed explanation of how the reseller / white label and referral program work. We truly believe we came out with an exceptional and superiors business model than anything that’s currently available in the market of Digital Signage. The program is designed to pass most of the profits to the reseller as we believe your success is our success.
The reseller page also includes a fully functional reseller calculator which is designed to show you exactly how much you can expect to profit in any given scenario.
We hope to release the white label and referral program by 3/10/2009 and this will also include the Reseller Studio; a MediaSignage application which is designed to allow resellers to actively monitor associated customer including their players and billing status.
MediaSignage is not only changing the world of Digital Signage for the end customer; but we are also taking the Reseller (including branding) approach to whole new level.
With MediaSignage you can open a reseller account online ( that’s right. No need to fill an application and no need to go through red tape ). Your generous repeat monthly profits are simply based on how many AIRPlayer licenses you sell, the way it should be…
Please feel free to comment on our Forum and let us know if you have any questions.

Reboot Signage Player
February 3, 2009Rebooting a Player
Some users emailed us asking how can they reboot a window PC per a pre-scheduled table.
And while we are proud that our application is free of memory leaks ( as of release 0.9.0.198 ) we do believe it is a good idea to reboot a Digital Signage player every once in a while as it helps clean up virtual memory of the OS, remove unused buffers and increases performance.
So here is a cool little freeware that can do this for you:

Digital Signage file conversion
January 8, 2009When you begin working with Digital Signage you often discover a great need to be able to convert files into and out of different formats. For example, our platform supports video files in the format of mp4, m4v, flv and swf. So having handy tools to convert lets say avi or mpeg into flv are essential. The following is a list of great ( mostly free ) utilities you can use to convert media files into new formats.
Media Converter SA Edition
Media Converter SA Edition is a free file converter which supports many file types. It has also an integrated video downloader to download videos from Youtube and co.

VLC media player (Open source/All platforms)
Ok, so VLC is a media player, not converter, but if you’re watching digital video, it’s a must-have—plus VLC can indeed rip DVD’s, as well as play ripped discs in ISO format (no actual optical media required.) VLC can also play FLV files downloaded from YouTube et al, no conversion to AVI required. Since there’s a portable version, VLC’s a nice choice for getting your DVD rips/saved YouTube video watching on wherever you go.

MediaCoder (Open source/Windows)
Batch convert audio and video compression formats with the open source Media Coder for Windows, which works with a long laundry lists of formats, including MP3, Ogg Vorbis, AAC, AAC+, AAC+V2, MusePack, WMA, RealAudio, AVI, MPEG/VOB, Matroska, MP4, RealMedia, ASF/WMV, Quicktime, and OGM, to name a few.

Avi2Dvd (Freeware/Windows)
Make your video files burnable to a DVD with Avi2Dvd, a utility that converts Avi/Ogm/Mkv/Wmv/Dvd files to Dvd/Svcd/Vcd format. Avi2Dvd can also produce DVD menus with chapter, audio, and subtitle buttons.

Videora Converter (Freeware/Windows only)
Videora Converter is a set of programs, each designed to convert regular PC video files into a format tailored to your favorite video-playing handheld device. The Videora program list includes iPod Video Converter (for 5th gen iPods), iPod classic Video Converter (for 6th gen classic iPods), iPod nano Video Converter (for 3rd gen iPod nanos), iPod touch Video Converter, iPhone Video Converter, Videora Apple TV Converter, PSP Video 9, Videora Xbox360 Converter, Videora TiVo Converter, and Videora PMP Converter. Lifehacker alum Rick Broida used Videora in conjunction with DVD Decrypter to copy DVDs to his iPod.
Honorable Mention: Ares Tube for Windows converts YouTube and other online videos to iPod format.

Any Video Converter (Freeware/Windows only)
Convert almost all video formats including DivX, XviD, MOV, rm, rmvb, MPEG, VOB, DVD, WMV, AVI to MPEG-4 movie format for iPod/PSP or other portable video device, MP4 player or smart phone with Any Video Converter, which also supports user-defined video file formats as the output. Batch process multiple files that AVC saves to a pre-selected directory folder, leaving the original files untouched.

Hey!Watch (webapp)
Web application Hey!Watch converts video located on your computer desktop as well as clips hosted on video sites. Upload your video to Hey!Watch to encode it into a wide variety of file formats, like H264, MP4, WMV, DivX, HD Video, Mobile 3GP/MP4, iPod, Archos and PSP. Hey!Watch only allows for 10MB of video uploads per month for free, and from there you pay for what you use, but it’s got lots of neat features for video publishers like podcast feed generation and automatic batch processing with options you set once.

iSquint (Freeware/Mac OS X only)
Convert any video file to iPod-sized versions and automatically add the results to your iTunes library. iSquint is free, but Lifehacker readers have praised the pay-for iSquint upgrade, VisualHub, which offers more advanced options for a $23 license fee. DVD Shrink (Freeware/Windows only)
Copy a DVD to your hard drive and leave off all the extras like bonus footage, trailers and other extras to save space with DVD Shrink. Download Adam’s one-click AutoHotkey/DVD Shrink utility to rip your DVDs to your hard drive for skip-free video play from scratchy optical media.

Super (Freeware/Cross platofrm)
Easy to use and supports almost any format on earth. A very powerful converter that comes highly recommended.
Super is a free media converter that acts as a graphical front end to several of the most powerful command line tools like FFmpeg, MEncoder, and MPlayer. The application boasts extensive options for customizing your preferences with virtually any aspect of your conversion. The downside to that control is that Super’s interface is cluttered and intimidating for first-time users. Luckily for most purposes, converting a file to the right format with Super is as simple as selecting your output format (e.g., Apple iPod) and just sticking with the defaults.

Zamzar
Free web service. Worth a shot.

FormatFactory (Windows)
Format Factory is a free media converter for Windows that converts video, audio, and even images between formats. With a nice icon-driven interface for helping you choose the kind of conversion you’re looking for, FormatFactory is one of the friendliest batch media converters you’ll find.

FFmpeg (All Platforms)
FFmpeg is free, cross platform command-line encoding tool that powers many of the more popular graphical applications in this Hive Five. While FFmpeg has more of a learning curve than the rest, it’s also undeniably powerful and flexible. If converting your media from the command line with FFmpeg appeals to you, check out how to FFmpeg your way to media conversion bliss.

Switch (Windows)
Switch is an audio converter quite similar to Media Converter SA, due to its simple and easy-to-use interface. Supporting numerous audio formats is only part of Switch’s large array of options. Other features include: the ability to import playlists, ability to convert up to 32,000 files all at once, settings for individual audio bit rates, etc. Switch could be used for a multitude of different media.

Digital Signage in a nut shell
December 29, 2008Digital Signage, also known as Narrowcasting, is a multimedia system that can be placed on location at retail outlets worldwide. The messaging presented by the digital signage is customized and targeted towards that particular target market, and is usually altered based on environmental factors such as season, time of day or day of week, as well as for reasons that are unique to the outlets’ sales items and cycles; items that need a push or attention drawn to them, or items that are moving quickly and could use an upsell.
Digital signage is a great tool for retailers because it offers the benefit of instant modifications, customizations, and re-focusing of messages. This cutting edge technology is also very cost effective, considering the huge point of sale implications and potential that it offers. That elusive and murky point of sale stage in the consumer buying cycle is finally open to effective and consistent retailer messaging with properly implemented narrowcasting services.
Narrowcasting is quite easy to manoeuvre as well. At most, you can contact your digital casting provider and have them make virtually instantaneous alterations to your messaging.
Although Digital signage is now taking the retail world by storm, there are still a few organizations that are sitting on the fence when it comes to investing in this technology. Although the general benefits are clear, there is still the unknown. Is this technology difficult to utilize? Is it cumbersome and expensive to operate? And perhaps most importantly, how can I make digital signage work for me?
As we have already covered, narrowcasting is both cost effective and easy to utilize. The question remaining is “how can we make digital signage work for you?”
First, it is important to understand that digital signage does not provide the same experience as regular television viewing. This means that it will not be effective to take an existing 120, 60, or even 30 second spot and use it as-is for this medium, regardless of how tempting it is to attempt to get more use out of that previously made, and very expensive, creative. That is the bad news.
The good news is that, if you find the right digital signage provider, that agency will already have a media design team in place to work with you, or your ad agency, to create or even repurpose existing ad content. The team can take your above mentioned 30 second ad spot and easily and inexpensively customize it for your in-store digital signage. This expert advice, combined with your excellent grasp of your sales cycles and market, will help drive interest, brand awareness and sales.
To ensure that digital signage works for you, work with your provider to create specific and creative content that reflects your needs and your customers’ needs. As an example, a grocery store owner may want to quickly sell some overstocked children’s vitamins. Perhaps, however, this would not be the product to feature on a Saturday evening. The grocery store might receive much more favourable results from featuring discount DVD’s and a sale on potato chips.
As cutting edge as digital signage is, it has already proven itself as an effective marketing media that can work for virtually any retail outlet.
